Mike & Winston

"The attached photo is of the gray whale that changed my life forever. Yes I have touched a gray whale, Yes I have hugged a gray whale I have even kissed a gray whale, but to have eye to eye contact is the most awesome feeling there is. It was as if we could read each other's minds."

Kimberly Long of St. Petersburg, Florida

Kimberly Long of St. Petersburg, Florida writes to tell us that she gets to see dolphins and porpoises "all the time" from the beaches or from her office window in downtown Miami. Kimberly says, "It is just an incredible feeling to see these animals in the wild. When I was young they would follow my Dad's fishing boat as we headed out into the Gulf of Mexico. They are such beautiful creatures that are always curious to what we humans are and what we are doing out in the their waters."

Tanya Wiigs from Calgary, Alberta

Tanya Wiigs from Calgary, Alberta sends this shot of an orca whale in the Johnstone Strait. "I had only seen orcas in aquariums until the summer of '97. We went whale watching with Seasmoke Whale Watchers and we followed the whales for miles. It seems obvious that an orca in an aquarium is confined to a much too small of an area. We followed the orcas for 2 hours and they never stopped swimming. I now will never go to an aquarium again to see whales on exhibit. It just isn't natural. Seeing all these whales has changed my life."

Kat a.k.a. Kathy from New Westminster, British Columbia

Kat a.k.a. Kathy from New Westminster, British Columbia writes to relate her experience at Campbell River BC about 5 years ago, "We were in a small power boat and got bumped from underneath - never did see the whale on the surface but though the water beside us so we were not sure what type of whale, but definately not an orca! It was quite amazing we sat in the boat with the engine cut and waiting for him to surface but we must have scared him away. Darn. "
